Openings & Closings: The circle of life churns at a frantic, untenable pace for venues in Shanghai. Follow our equally desperate attempt to keep up.
A couple of news items for fans of that live rock and roll in Shanghai. Firstly, if you've been missing On Stage, a venue that shuttered in the closing of the Red Town creative park last year, good news for you: They've got a new place. The people behind On Stage are opening something called LOFAS in the West Bund area.

LOFAS stands for "Life of Fun and Sustainability" which is... yeah definitely a name alright. They've located a space in a mall in the West Bund area and are booking shows for May now, testing the waters over the summer months before opening properly in September. Here's a peek inside.

Meanwhile, the folks behind Yuyintang are opening Yuyintang Park, another livehouse, with slightly more capacity that Yuyintang Original Recipe. It's right at the entrance to Zhongshan Park, hence the name, also in a mall. They've got two opening concerts in May (May 18 and May 26) for that one: Sin Fang, Sóley and Örvar Smárason China Tour 2018, brought to you by New Noise (tickets here); and Canadian punk band METZ, returning to Shanghai, hosted by Splitworks.

No pictures of what the inside looks like yet but here's the logo:
