Saturday: South Rakkas at Arkham

Jan 10, 2014 | 13:44 Fri
Electric East and One Love Shanghai have a little do on Saturday night that brings in South Rakkas, a crew known to be among the founders of electro-dancehall, a sub-genre that mixes Jamaican reggae and dancehall with electro. They're based out of Florida though the founder guy was born in Jamaica. Their first album came out more than 10 years ago and featured a hall-of-fame of dancehall stars: Beenie Man, Mad Cobra, Elephant Man, Capleton, Mr. Vegas, Sizzla.

This weekend's party has Dennis 'D-Rakkas' Shaw, who is the founder of the crew. He's pretty much a one-man band now, though there were formerly three members. Expect a DJ set made up of trap, hip-hop, moombahton, dancehall,

electro, reggae and dubstep. Shanghai producer Conrank will be supporting, accompanied by DJ Sal, Misloop, Q-Craft, and beatbox guy Dirty Mouth.

Looks like a solid night of lesser-spotted sounds. 60rmb on the door. Starts about 10pm. More here.
