This looks good: Shanghai LGBT and British Consulate are joining forces to screen PRIDE. Starring Dominic West (The Wire, The Hour) and Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Shaun of the Dead) the film is a tragicomedy that recounts the true story of gay and lesbian activists who raised money for families of coalminers who went on a nationwide strike in 1984.

Given the mores of the time, the mineworkers union was reluctant to take the money. God forbid that such a manly vocation be publicly associated with a gay activist group. And therein lies the conflict that drives the plot.

The 2014 film was quite well received last year. Most notably, it received the Queer Palm, an independently sponsored award for LGBT-oriented films in the Cannes Film Festival. It's also gotten four-star reviews from the likes of The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, and even the The Daily Mail.

Admission is free, but you'll need to bring an ID or a passport to get in. Film starts at 7pm. Learn more here.
