On Thursday, the Shanghai wing of the organization screens the locally-made films that won awards in previous years at that converted swimming pool The Market from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. More details on signing up and the competition that runs from September 16 to September 18 inside.
The winner of Best Film at the city level gets their film screened at the Filmapalooza 2017 festival in the US, a trophy, and Movie Magic Screenwriter Software 6.
(Which is probably a real great piece of screenwriting software, I guess?)
The filmmakers of the grand prize winner, selected from the winning city films, gets 5000 US dollars and screened at Cannes.
Last year saw teams that were coming in from Beijing and Chongqing just to participate because their cities didn't offer it.
"Someone [from the Chongqing team] got into a car accident, and they still turned in their on time. It was incredible," says Danielle Sumita, the city producer of the Shanghai 48 Hour Film Project.
You can sign up at the 48 Hour Film Project website. The early bird price is 700rmb per team and the deadline is August 22. Entry into the final deadline on September 16 is 800rmb. There are no limits on team sizes. Check out Shanghai 2015 winner for Best Film and 2015 grand prize winner below.
