House of Vans: What's Up With That Free De La Soul Show on Saturday?

Aug 31, 2016 | 17:56 Wed
How many feathers are on a Purdue chicken?

How many fibers are intertwined in a shredded wheat biscuit?

Why will Theophilus London never get booked for another House of Vans show again?

Welcome, welcome, contestants! House of Vans is back all weekend long for skateboarding, art, markets, and live music. As far as big-brand youth-culture events, it's good times, and they have a solid track record of actually getting musicians to China. Fingers crossed. Here's a breakdown of what's happening, and info about the last minute venue change.

Crucial Venue Change Info

First, this is no longer happening at Waima Lu. They just moved the event up to the Northside: Baoshan District. Hey that's not a bad thing -- The Cool Docks ain't that cool, and it's always good to explore a lesser-known area of Shanghai. The new venue is Yun Space in Baoshan. It's about 19km from IAPM.

Address: 258 Changjiang Lu, near Jungong Lu

The closest metro station is Zhang Hua Bang Lu on Line 3.

Times, Lineup & Schedule

So. this happens September 2 to September 4. Friday goes 2pm-11pm, Saturday goes 12pm-12am, Sunday goes 12pm-5.30pm. Each day there are skate photo exhibitions, a mini ramp, tattooing, and markets featuring food by peeps like Jenny from Fly By Jing.

Here's what's up with the live music:

Friday, September 2 from 7.30pm-11pm: three up-and-coming local bands from the "Musician Wanted" competition, and emo band Moose Blood.

Saturday, September 3 from 7.15pm-11pm: J-Fever & Soulspeak, Kari Faux, and De La Soul. If you don't know De La Soul, get familiar. They just put out a new album that funded with Kickstarter

Sunday, September 4 from 3pm-4pm: Hometown heros LinFeng and ChaCha.

You don't need tickets for the daytime activities, but you do need them for the music on September 2 and Septeber 3. Tickets for September 3 -- the De La Soul show -- are gone. You could always try your luck. VANS tells us that tickets for September 2 are almost gone, so get on that sooner than later. You'll need to go to the VANS shop in the IAPM and scan a QR code before 10pm on Sept 1.
