If you’re sticking around Shanghai for the long weekend, here are the details of the big dragon boat race this weekend, on Saturday, on Suzhou Creek.

The race takes place on the stretch of creek between Gubei Lu Bridge and Luding Lu Bridge in Hongqiao, just to the west of Zhongshan Park. Thirty-six teams from all over the world will compete in 10-man boats. The warm-ups start at 8am, the opening ceremony is at 10am and the final will begin around 10:20am. It’s going to be an early morning, but if you can drag yourself off the beer-soaked floor, grab a coffee and come have a look. Previous years – this is the ninth international race – have drawn big crowds.
