Sort Through People's Personal Items For Charity This Saturday

Community Center Shanghai's charity org River of Hearts gathers donated items year round to donate to rural communities across China. Tomorrow (Saturday, October 22), is there sorting party, where a couple hundred volunteers gather to go through mountains of stuff to see what can and cannot be donated. This time, the items go to impoverished schools in Yunnan and Dalian.

They have morning and afternoon volunteering sessions. The morning slot is from 9am to noon. And the afternoon slot is from 12.30-3pm. Details inside...


Things that can be donated: clean clothing, shoes, bedding, toys, books, and small household appliances.

Things that cannot be donated: Porn, coloring books already colored in, and Russian postcards.

So, as you can see, they need some help filtering out the stuff that can't be sent off. Take a friend or your family -- it's a great opportunity to get involved with the community and meet altruistic people. Then a couple weeks later, Community Center Shanghai has their annual fundraising gala at the Grand Hyatt in the Jinmao Tower. Tickets aren't cheap -- 1,000rmb -- but proceeds go toward the many great services the nonprofit does, including providing educational events, tours, and counseling for the international community.
