Qixi Festival (aka Chinese Valentine’s Day) comes around next Thursday. It happens on the seventh day of the seventh month -- on the lunisolar Chinese calendar, and that date falls on August 20 this year. If you screwed up last time around, you can think of next Thursday as a do-over to redeem yourself, maybe. And this time, perhaps heed caution with a bit of Chinese Valentine's Day advice here.
Here are some Qixi Festival-themed nights around town next week:
A "Cupid's Party" at The Pearl, a former burlesque club that's now used to stage theater performances. Seats are limited -- they’re saying they’ve got room for 150 couples and 100 single men and 100 single women. There will be live music, Latin dance lessons and prize giveaways. More info on reserving a spot here.
Roman restaurant Palatino has a Valentine’s Day menu with Spanish ham and marinated salmon appetizers, a shrimp linguine starter, Australian beef tenderloin, and millefoglie for dessert. The dinner's priced at 700rmb for two and comes with two glasses of Prosecco. Info and venue map here.
In Jing'an Bouquet’s, that restaurant inside a Xinhua bookstore, is doing a three course dinner that includes foie gras terrine and house pickles, smoked brioche and teriyaki-glazed salmon. That runs for 299rmb per person. More details here.
IAPM steakhouse The Cut has a Chinese Valentine's Day promo too: a four course menu to share with house cocktails. That set goes for 788rmb per couple. More info on this one here.
