This Week In Comedy: Monroe Martin, Comic Showcase, and More

By Jan 20, 2016 Nightlife
With the newly opened Kung Fu Komedy Club bringing in international headliners, the Shanghai Comedy Club running comedy six nights a week, and Punchline Comedy doing big monthly hotel shows, Shanghai's standup comedy scene is slowly elbowing its way onto the international stage.

This week, NYC-based comic Monroe Martin performs at the Kung Fu Komedy Club on Friday and Saturday night. He was a semi-finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing and recently has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Kung Fu Komedy's first international headliner for 2016, Monroe does a lot of material on his rough upbringing, finding the humor in some pretty dark situations. You can catch a taste of it here on YouTube.

Over at the Shanghai Comedy Club on the third floor of Masse, they've got a showcase on Friday with Shanghai-based comedians. Their open mic nights are on Tuesdays and Sundays. Chinese improv group Fei Lai Ji Xing performs on Wednesdays and Improv group Zmack performs shows (often themed) on Saturdays. And Thursdays are usually a mix of improv or standup shows.
