Weekend In Comedy: Paul Ruben, Zmack, and Punchline

By Feb 26, 2016 Nightlife
Hey did anyone actually go to the Russell Peters show? It sold out on SmartTicket, but we've heard nothing since. The Reddit Shanghai thread is crickets too. Leave a comment if you went. Here's what's going on in comedy over the weekend:

Over at the Kung Fu Komedy Club, California comedian Paul Ruben has two shows Friday at 8pm and 10pm, then one show Saturday at 8.45pm. He's been featured on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and HBO's Def Comedy Jam, worked with Jamie Foxx and George Lopez, and was Russell Peters' main opener for years (but not for his Shanghai show, which just had Peters' DJ).

More comedy after the jump.

You can check Ruben's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson appearance on YouTube. Tickets for the shows are 200rmb at the door or 170rmb in advance.

On Saturday, improv group Zmack performs at the Shanghai Comedy Club in Masse. They're doing a "leap year" themed show with off-the-cuff humor. Proceeds go towards the group's trip to Chicago to perform. Starts at 8.30pm. Cover is 100rmb with a drink.

Also on Saturday, Masse has a late-night showcase with local stand-ups from 11pm. Cover is 70rmb with a drink. Should be alright.

Looking ahead, Punchline is bringing in three Irish stand-up comedians -- Andrew Stanley, Karl Spain, and John Lynn -- for three shows across town right before St. Patrick's Day. More info on that and tickets on SmartTicket.
