Mother's Day Dining Picks

By May 9, 2012 Dining

She changed your diapers, packed your lunch for school, helped you cram for that math test, took you to and from football practice or ballet recitals. Let’s face it. You probably owe here more than just a brunch, but it’s a start. Here’s a rundown of what’s going on around town in celebration of Mom.

To start, we like Hai Pai in the Andaz Hotel. It’s the hotel brunch that doesn’t feel like a hotel brunch. It starts with two buffets. On one side, you’ve got a sumptuous spread of French cuisine – fresh seafood, pates, salads, a carvery station, mini quiches and croque madams, fresh fruit, and a selection of pastries including their signature mini éclairs. On the other side, Chinese – everything from steamed dumplings to stir-fried noodles, to roasted goose and chashao pork. The selection is just enough to keep you interested without it being overwhelming. Be sure to save room for the a la carte main course like eggs benedict or roast lamb. Also, if the weather is nice, you can’t go wrong with their patio. If you’re a tee-totaler it’s only 288rmb+15%. For unlimited Perrier Jouet champers, it’s 588rmb+15%. Kids six-12 years of age eat for only 144rmb+15%. Also, because it’s Mother’s day, Mom gets a “LOVE chocolate gift" and an Optime Spa voucher. More on that right here.

Another intriguing hotel option is the tried and true Westin Bund Center. This year they’re putting a Mexican twist on their legendary Sunday brunch. Visiting chef Angelina Ramos from Los Cabos is preparing a spread of Mexican favorites. There will be margaritas, ice cold brews, and tequila for refreshment as well as live Mexican themed entertainment. That’s 538rmb+15% per person. More details here.

Perhaps Mom prefers Italian. We’ve got you covered there too. Issimo in the JIA Hotel has a buffet of some of Chef Stefano Pace’s mother’s favorite antipasti along with a and a selection of mains like egg frittatas with Italian sausage, green zucchini and roasted rosemary potatoes, Nonna Maria`s baked lasagna, and lamb leg with roast potatoes, honey pumpkin and lots of love. Adults, 388rmb+15%. 158rmb+15% for children under 12. That price includes free-flow prosecco and soft drinks. Mother will be treated to complimentary brunch if she's dining with a minimum of three persons. Details here.

Across the river and up 52 floors there is Scena in the Ritz Pudong. They’re doing an antipasti buffet, a choice of main course and a trip to the dessert buffet. That’s 688rmb+15% per person and includes a glass of Moët & Chandon champagne and unlimited soft drinks and fruit juices. More on that here.

For a Teutonic taste, there is always Stiller’s Lazy Sunday Lunch. This features a rotating selection of small plates. All you can eat for 398rmb+10% per person. Mom eats for half price this Sunday, so use the money you saved and buy her something nice, okay?

Or how about afternoon tea in an historic, iconic landmark? Jasmine Lounge in the Fairmont Peace Hotel is offering selection of eats and drinks so dainty that poking your pinky out is mandatory. Mom gets a special gift as well. Details here.

Finally, after brunch head to Surpass Court, where Brownstone does its weekly block party. This weekend, they’re giving away manicures by Gossip Nail.

Of course, we’ve got more selections for your perusal. You can find them here. As always, we’ll get some 11th hour entries too. So keep checking back.
