Shakespeare's been dead for 400 years (in April) and Sir Ian McKellen is coming to Shanghai to discuss the playwright during the 19th annual Shanghai International Film Festival.
This is part of a new program by McKellen and the British Film Institute (BFI) that celebrates Shakespeare's legacy. Gandalf arrives on June 11 for the festival, and on the 12th, BFI will screen Richard III (1995), which was co-directed by and stars McKellen. Following the screening, McKellen will do a Q&A about Shakespeare adaptations in film, and BFI's head curator Robin Baker will host a talk on the history of the adaptations. SIFF ticketing details have yet to be released. More news as we get it.
